GOOD FRIDAY APRIL 10

LOOK AT JESUS

ENDURING CRUCIFIXION AND ITS SHAME FOR US

WELCOME

In these difficult times of physical isolation, we hope these Good Friday resources will encourage and help you. We believe that Jesus the Son of God came into the world to save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). We believe he achieves this fully and perfectly by his death on the cross. We believe therefore a person who is a saved sinner (a follower of Jesus) can with joyful confidence say ‘he loved me and gave himself for me.’ (Galatians 2:20)

‘There is no one richer than the owner of the universe. There is no one poorer than a man stripped naked on a cross.’ Ray Galea

‘Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.’ Isaac Watts

OPENING SONG

A much-loved Good Friday Hymn - There is a green hill far away

This beautiful Hymn reminds us it was on a hill outside the city walls of Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. The words outside a city wall speak of shame and rejection. But the bible says all this was FOR US.

PRAYERS

Some short ‘Thank you’ prayers:

Dear God, thank you that you have the whole world in your hands and you care for each one of us. Please grow us to be more like the Lord Jesus. Amen.

O God, your mercies are new every morning, we thank you for showering us already with your provision of life, health, shelter, and purpose. Thank you for all your gifts so freely given to us. Especially for our Saviour Jesus Christ and for the gift of your Spirit, and for the hope of sharing in your glory. Fill our hearts with all joy and peace in believing, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Merciful father, you delight to give your children good gifts, we thank you for supplying our every need. We are conscious of those who have much less than us, and pause to thank you for the immense privileges you have granted us in this life, and above all for the blessing and privilege of knowing and following Jesus your Son. Amen.

Some short ‘Petition’ prayers:

Help us Lord, we pray, and guide us towards our everlasting salvation; that, among all the changes and chances of this life, we may be always defended by your great and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our God, creator and preserver of all humankind: we pray for all people, that you would make your way known to them, your saving power among all the nations of the world. Amen

Dear God, you love peace, and you give us peace in life, now and forever. Help us to trust you, and live without being scared, because we know the power of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Dear God, please grant all children discernment and wisdom, as they increase in knowledge and understanding; that their discoveries about your world may unite with their discoveries about your Word, and enable them to live for you, and please you in every way, through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly father, you know the difficulties, stresses, and pressures of life under the sun and this side of our heavenly home: please grant grace; extra grace which will be sufficient for our needs, so that we might live for you and follow in the footsteps of Christ who endured and persevered for our sake. Lord have mercy on us at this time of difficulty and challenge. Amen

Lord God, fulfil now, our desires and prayers as may be best for us. Grant us, in this life, knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come, life eternal. Amen.
